HI, IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU!

I'm Ryan, and I'll be making your cake. :)

I'm a wife, a mom to three beautiful girls, a follower of Christ, and I am thrilled to create something unique for you.


I grew up in Albuquerque and have always loved to bake; our annual Christmas cookie baking day was my favorite day of the year. After graduating from high school I attended UNM for a year and then decided to go to pastry school. I attended and graduated from L'Academie de Cuisine in Washington D.C. in 2010, which was one of the top pastry schools in North America at the time. My days at LAC are some of my fondest memories, somewhere I made lifelong friends, and learned the craft of French pastry arts. I fell in love with laminated doughs, French macarons, and cake (of course). We had the privilege to be taught how to use fondant and make sugar flowers from the queen of cake, Colette Peters. And after that, I knew that, while others in my class would be heading off to hotels and restaurants, I wanted to focus on cakes. 

I've worked at SugarBakers Cakes in Maryland, Marcello’s Chophouse, Cake Fetish, ABC Cake Shop, and Smallcakes here in Albuquerque. I've also worked in the corporate world, selling ads for Albuquerque the Magazine and working in the corporate office of Heritage Hotels & Resorts.

But, my heart and my passion has always been for cake.

 

I absolutely love cake, from the perfect crumb to the yummiest buttercream; I'm always learning new techniques to use, and I find inspiration everywhere and love to apply it to my designs. I love to craft delicate sugar flowers by hand, pipe details that match invitations, mix colors to match table place cards perfectly, and I never make the same cake twice.

You see, I believe that the cake you order from me should be a reflection of who you are, it should be designed especially for you, not chosen out of a book or off of a Pinterest page (although I love to see what designs you want to incorporate into your cake.) 

Nothing brings me more joy than getting to know who I’m making cakes for--Honey & Salt is not just another bakery, you are not just another order or another cake I'm cranking out: I hope we become friends and that I get to make you and your family cakes for years to come.

I'm also a Sugar Angel with Icing Smiles, which provides birthday cakes for children and their siblings who are ill in the hospital. It's a wonderful organization and I love being able to provide some happiness to the children!
