Hi, I'm Ryan! It's nice to meet you.
I am first and foremost a follower of Christ, and base the way I operate Honey & Salt on my faith: everything I do is for the glory of God. I am married to a wonderful man named Rob and we have three young girls together: Charlotte, Lily-James, and Owen (I'm sure if you follow me on Instagram you've seen their shenanigans pop up on my stories).
My passion has always been for cake; this is a business I have been dreaming of and praying about for a decade.
In 2009, at the age of 19, I decided to move cross-country to attend the world-renowned pastry arts program at L'Academie de Cuisine in Maryland. While there I trained under incredible French chefs in the art of classical pastry and learned the artistry, science, and methods of creating delicate and delicious pastries. I also have over ten years of professional experience working in the cake industry, including at Sugar Baker's in Maryland, ABC Cake Shop, Cake Fetish, and helping to open Smallcakes here in Albuquerque. My cakes reflect the training and experience I have.
I wanted to start a bespoke cakery because I've spent a lot of time making cakes that people just pick from a book. The cakes you order from me are pieces of art, designed especially for you, not chosen out of a book or off of a Pinterest page (although I love to see what designs you want to incorporate into your cake.) The cakes that I craft for you are carefully planned from the first correspondence until the final detail is placed. I am constantly learning new techniques to use on my cakes through online courses, and I find inspiration everywhere from tea pots to wall textures to sunsets and love to apply it all to my designs.
In my spare time, I'm a bit of an introvert, who reads a lot of books, studies theology, and knows more about serial killers than most people. I love to watch Harry Potter with Charlotte, have my makeup done by Lily, and read books to Owen. I'm a bit obsessed with Great British Bake Off and love to beat my husband in every Scrabble game we play.
