hi, i'm ryan!
it's nice to meet you.
I was born and raised in Albuquerque, and after a brief stint at UNM, I attended pastry school at the prestigious L'Academie de Cuisine outside of Washington D.C. in 2009. After graduation, I returned home to build a career in the Land of Enchantment.
I am first and foremost a follower of Christ, and base the way I operate Honey & Salt on my faith--everything I do is for the glory of God. I am married to a wonderful man named Rob and we have three young girls together: Charlotte, Lily-James, and Owen (I'm sure if you follow me on Instagram you've seen their shenanigans pop up on my stories).
My passion has always been for cake; this is a business I have been dreaming of and praying about for years.
I have over ten years of professional experience working for SugarBaker's Cakes in Maryland, Marcello's Chophouse, Cake Fetish, ABC Cake Shop, and Smallcakes. I am constantly learning new techniques to use on my cakes through online courses, and I find inspiration everywhere and love to apply it to my designs. I do everything from the baking to the making of curds and compotes to the deliveries to designing my website and running social media myself. It's a lot of work, but I love it and find joy in giving my all into every cake and person who comes my way.
The cakes that I craft for you are carefully planned from the first correspondence until the final detail that is placed on your cake.
You see, I believe that the cake you order from me should be a reflection of who you are, it should be designed especially for you, not chosen out of a book or off of a Pinterest page (although I love to see what designs you want to incorporate into your cake.) Someone once asked me to make them a cake that is beautiful, and that I'd enjoy making. That's what I want to focus on these days: cakes that I enjoy making, but also cakes that you love.
But, nothing brings me more joy than getting to know who I’m making cakes for--Honey & Salt is not just another cakery: you are not just another order I'm cranking out: I hope we become friends and that I get to make you and your family cakes for years to come.
Overall, I hope you find that there is grace upon grace cake after cake here.
